Throughout his career in software engineering, Kevin repeatedly observed a persistent point of confusion across diverse teams: the word "Julian Date" is used to refer to three fundamentally distinct calendar systems:

1. Commercial & Logistics Ordinal Dates (YYDDD / YYYYDDD): The sequential day of the calendar year (from 001 to 365 or 366), widely used on food packaging, military logistics, and warehouse inventory tracking.
2. Astronomical Julian Dates (JD & MJD): A continuous decimal count of days elapsed since Greenwich mean noon on January 1, 4713 BC, standard in astrophysics and satellite telemetry.
3. Historical Julian Calendar: The 365.25-day solar calendar introduced by Julius Caesar in 45 BC, which differs by 13 days from today's Gregorian calendar.
